TN's: Some More Recent Garagiste Selections

  • 2006 Juan Garcia Bullas Cepas del Zorro - Spain, Murcia, Bullas (5/26/2009)
Plastic cork. Smells of Mouvedre giving the animal and dark rocks character over dark berry fruits. Palate again shows straight forward Mouvedre character with plenty of acidity. A nice dinner wine and well put together for $9 if lacking any complexity. Not extracted or jammy but a nicely balanced table wine. Held up identically over 3 nights in the fridge.
  • 2001 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru (5/10/2009)
Corked showed some leakage and was mostly soaked. Small notes of oxidation that showed initially fade or become overwhelmed by the fruit. Slatey nose with layered in lemon. Palate is light up front but builds to a tart finish with adequate acidity and a touch of minerals. Not a lot of depth here considering it’s ‘Grand Cru’ origins but pleasing enough and a good dinner companion. Best showing of this yet. Clearly a fill or cork issue with this wine so I wouldn’t wait long on it.
  • 1990 Schloss Schönborn Geisenheimer Schlossgarten Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Rheingau (5/2/2009)
Pleasing spiced cider quality fronting some extremely refreshing acidity. Maybe it was just a weekend full of huge Rhone reds but this really livened up my palate and makes me wonder at my previous note. Very refreshing. Very good.
  • N.V. Baron-Fuenté Champagne Galipettes Brut - France, Champagne (5/1/2009)
Bright and sweetly fruity but with enough acidity to carry it. Balanced but in a forward yet light style. Not a long termer.
  • 2005 Château Margüi Côteaux Varois - France, Provence, Côteaux Varois (4/14/2009)
More complex nose this time showing some ripe tomato aroma but also some beef blood, bit of reduction and dark berries. Palate has the tartness that curls the sides of your tongue and after some blackberry. Lacks concentration towards the finish. Where did the Cab go?

Nice notes.

I have had a couple of the Chablisienne. One was undrinkable it was so oxidized and the other was slightly but still very good
I have a few of the Schonborn too but have yet to pop one.

The 01 Chablisienne’s have been bottle variable to say the least.
The old Schonborns Rimmerman sold have been great bargains.
