TNs: Several nice New World PNs

  • 2004 Gary Farrell Pinot Noir Russian River Selection - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/10/2010)
14.2% alcohol. Opened two hours before serving but not decanted. As with previous bottles, this is showing to be a very pretty wine. It’s still youthful. Pretty nose of black cherry and minerals. In the mouth, greater development of complexity, with spice and floral notes joining the fun. Strong acidity and a solid finish. A-
  • 2005 Dain Wines Pinot Noir American Beauty Amber Ridge Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/8/2010)
14.0% alcohol. Just a terrific showing for this wine. It has held its style from 18 months ago and will continue to hold for longer. Juicy black cherry on the nose, with baking spice, and minerals. In the mouth, racy and quite intense, with beautifully concentrated black cherry fruit that is layered with baking spice, flowers, and earth. Bright acidity and a long finish that’s smooth and pleasant. Just beautiful. A-
