Been a while since I posted any TNs, but I thought these were interesting enough because of their connection to the folks at Felsina.
- 2019 Fattoria dei Pagliarese Chianti Classico Gran Selezione - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG (3/11/2025)
I believe this is the first vintage where they released any wine as a "Gran Selezione". I just had a glass of the '20 CC, and there is more to this wine, especially on the nose. More polished than the CC - maybe the influence of some new oak? I like this. Like the CC, primarily red fruits.
As I mentioned in my note on the CC, this is a winery that was purchased by the family that owns Felsina, and if you like their wines, these wines have a similar rustic bent. If I remember to do so, I'll try this next time side-by-side with the Felsina Rancia from the same vintage. I believe this wine comes from a vineyard that is close to Castell'in Villa's property. - 2020 Fattoria dei Pagliarese Chianti Classico - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG (3/11/2025)
Earthy red fruit on the palate, decent acidity and this feels very traditional. This is an estate that was bought by the family that owns Felsina a while back. The estate had fallen into disrepair so they had to spend some time restoring the vineyards to productivity - I believe the first vintage released under the new ownership was 2015.
If you enjoy a rustic style of Chianti, this would probably appeal to you. I would buy this again.
