TNs: Saturday night with Flannery short ribs

Flannery short ribs, if you haven’t tried them, are ethereal. Delicious and just fall-apart tender. The best. Of course it’s the best – it’s Flannery.

  • 2003 Turley Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (2/13/2010)
16.5% alcohol. Wow, this is a ripe wine, but it holds up better than you might expect. Port-like on the nose, with ripe black fruit and a lively spice streak. In the mouth, lush and texturally quite nice, but with a porty edge to it. Just teetering on being flabby. But it’s quite astonishing that it doesn’t show more heat than the touch it does on the finish. A solid, if not totally inspiring wine. B+
  • 2007 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/13/2010)
15.2% alcohol. Freaking awesome wine. A nice contrast to the Selyem. This wine has a more complex, earthy edge to it. And the fruit isn’t quite as jammy. Well-structured, with good acidity, and a stellar finish. Carlisle is the king of Zin. A-
  • 2007 Novy Family Wines Zinfandel Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/13/2010)
15.1% alcohol. Jammy black fruit. Soft, plush wine with great mouth feel. A perfect wine to drink with cold-weather foods. A-
  • 2007 Williams Selyem Zinfandel Papera Vineyard Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/13/2010)
14.8% alcohol. Peppery, spicy nose of jammy black fruit. In the mouth, a jammy edge to the briary fruit. Good acidity and a long, fruity finish. Just a delicious expression. A-
  • N.V. Ariston Aspasie Champagne Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne (2/13/2010)
12.0% alcohol. Tasty, if somewhat simple, Champagne. Lively citrus and yeast on the nose. Refreshing in the mouth. The flavors may be simple, but they are clean, pure, and tasty. There is a touch of creaminess to the fruit and acidity. Solid finish. Really nice. B+
  • N.V. Domaine Chandon Étoile Rosé - USA, California (2/13/2010)
12.0% alcohol. With the discounted price on this wine, it provides the best value you can find right now. Excellent cherry edge to the fruit. Lively and refreshing, if not profoundly complex. Fun to drink. A delicious wine. A-

Wish I had known this was going down…I was in Houston due to the power outage in Big D.

Went to Pappadeaux and had some grub.

Oh dude … let me know anytime. We’ll hook it up!
