I like that Ridge did this in 2003 – bottling Geyserville as usual and the component parts separately. Interesting comparison.

2003 Ridge Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (5/24/2009)
So we had tasted the three parts; how did the sum of the parts measure up? Very ripe nose, with black fruit and spice. Plush in the mouth, with enough of a hint of vibrancy to keep it focused. Good acidity, but overall this falls into the Heart’s Desire/Pronsolino camp, with a bit too ripe a profile. B+ -
2003 Ridge Zinfandel Hearts Desire Field Selection Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (5/24/2009)
14.9% alcohol. Very ripe nose, with a port-like edge to the lush black fruits. In the mouth, plush and texturally very nice. Also a ripe mouth feel, though, with a touch of flab around the palate. The acidity is subdued. But no heat on the finish. B+ -
2003 Ridge Zinfandel Picchetti Selection Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (5/24/2009)
14.9% alcohol. As has always been the case when I’ve encountered these three component bottlings of the 2003 Geyserville, this was my favorite again. The most complete wine of the bunch, with a compelling red- and black-fruited nose, tinged with spice and earth. In the mouth, more vibrant and racy, with terrific acidity and a long finish. A- -
2003 Ridge Zinfandel Pronsolino Field Selection Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (5/24/2009)
15.2% alcohol. Like the Heart’s Desire, very ripe in the nose. This had a slight minty, forest-like edge to the profile. Black fruit in the nose and mouth. Very spicy palate. Slightly more acidity than the Heart’s Desire and no heat on the finish. B+
