  • 2007 Château de la Bourdiniere Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Cuvée Tradition - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (4/1/2009)
Pure crystal lemon. Had some sort of crunchy almost spritzy texture towards the finish that I have detected on other wines but at am a loss to explain or describe very well. This has a ton of fruit for a wine of the type though not big. Well concentrated now making it slightly clumsy towards the finish over powering the acidity a bit but was a complete delight to drink with dinner. Love this stuff. $10? Would pay 3 times the price. Should go for many years.
  • 2003 Château Cambon La Pelouse - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc (3/22/2009)
Plenty of cigar and leather aromas with plenty of big berry fruit on the 2nd night. Palate is big up front and tannic in back but seems to go weak towards the finish though the acidity is good. Balanced but lacking some concentration to keep it even. A very nice wine for the money though I wouldn’t wait more than a 2-3 years.
  • 2005 Guillerault-Fargette Sancerre Les Chassenoys - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (3/18/2009)
Very tight initially the minerality really took off with air and temperature with fruit really showing best on day 2. Lime, white pear, white peach and wet pavement on the nose. Quince with a touch of lime on the palate and plenty of wet stone minerality. Very nice.
  • 2001 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández La Mancha El Vinculo Reserva - Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, La Mancha (3/17/2009)
Nose is dominated by coconut with a touch of dill. Sweet oaky vanilla overtones dominate the palate as well. Fairly consistent even to the third night though the softness relaxes some and some herbiness steps up to add some interest. Be patient with this one unless you like-ah dah oak.
  • N.V. Baron-Fuenté Champagne Grande Réserve Extra-Brut - France, Champagne (3/5/2009)
Saline and lemon nose with light doughy notes. Bright even palate with nice acidity and mineral qualities. Well balanced with a lot of energy in the mouth. On the lighter bodied style side but great freshness. I liked this quite a bit better than the Galipettes bottling. Nice food wine and terrific value under $30.
  • 2004 L’Oustal Blanc (Isabel et Claude Fonquerle) Minervois Naïck 4 - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois (3/4/2009)
Sweet Grenache nose. Palate shows nice easy complexity with Provencal herbs just below balanced fruits. Bright and generous a real value wine that drinks well above its price point. Seemed to let the oak shine big on day 2 though and somewhat woody on day 3. Probably not one to look for improvement in bottle but a terrific drink now.
  • N.V. Bruno Gobillard Champagne Brut Rosé – Mlle Sophie Cuvee - France, Champagne, Oger, Champagne (2/20/2009)
Much fruitier than I expected given the reviews. Not out of balance though with a clean palate and tart acidity. The fruit isn’t over powering by any means but definitely leaning towards red candy end of the scale.

Damn, is there a day that goes by where you do not have a glass of wine?

How sweet is the 2007 Château de la Bourdiniere Muscadet?

Occasionally. I drink it with dinner most nights.

Muscadet is not a sweet wine. Think of really lean and maybe simpler Chardonnay. More for the acid and mineral freaks.

So it should go well with white pasta and seafood.

Yeah, seafood is a classic match. The area of Muscadet is close to the coast.

I have some of that Muscadet. Thanks for the note.

Thanks for the notes Cris. Chelsea Wine Vault has the Bourdinière for $9.99. Will pick it up and give it a try.

Nice array of vino Chris.

I’m a huge fan of B. Gobillard bubbly, especially the VV, but I’ve never tasted the rose.

I like their NV bottlings as well though they tend to be on the pricey side. Has a nice lime and mineral quality.

True, they are pricey; have you found anything that’s similar, but at a more reasonable price?
