Not as much Burg lately as I have been inundated with samples and a burst of hot and humid weather upped the intake of Beaujolais and Peroni!
2005 Domaine William Fevre Valmur
I have been a bit suspicious of 05 Chablis, finding the odd one a bit plump. Not this one, textbook, cool and rocky, with great length and precision. Still youthful, but with the acid in check this just glides down.
2001 Raveneau Valmur
A touch of exoticism, but still shows some steely resolve. Vivid, energetic and close to the top of its game. Ultimately the Fevre will be a better wine, but this is no slouch. 2008 Marc Roy Marsannay Les Champs Pedrix
My type of white Burg - all tightly bound, splashed with citrus and bracing cut. The fruits are very much in the cooler spectrum with just a touch of wood spice. very nice
2008 Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin "Alexandrine"
This starts off a bit slight and with just a hint of 04esque GMs, but with breathing the darker brambly fruits come to the fore. Pure and crunchy, this is a wine that needs time to meld.
2008 Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos Prieur"
Plumper, darker and with more meat on its bones than the Alexandrine. Geez these 08s remind me of 2001s, just so pure, crunchy, yet so well balanced. This is delicious now such is its exquisite balance, yet with the structure to age effortlessly. Very nice.
funny how Burgundy is such a small place, I’ve spent so much time learning about it, and then I see a note about a guy I’ve never heard of making all kinds of Burgs; tell me more about Roy . . .

A new name to me too Alan. My old mate form the Barossa put me onto them - Burghound gave them a pretty good rap too! Not sure of too much of the history, but my first tastes suggest an estate worthy of consideration.
Thanks for the notes Kent, what I wouldn’t give for some hot and humid weather! I agree with your general take on the 05 Chablis, often quite weighty. Great to hear the Fevre Valmur came together nicely.

Alan, A mate of mine, who is a M.W, gave me the tip on Domaine Marc Roy, saying that they were making some outstanding Burgundy for the money so I shipped a few cases and visited Alexandrine Roy in October. They only have Village level wines, a delicious Marsannay blanc ‘Champs Perdrix’and three Gevrey-Chambertin. Alexandrine Roy is a delightful young lady who is quite focussed and very much in tune with her terroirs and her wines have a real sense of place with excellent weight and complexity for Village wines. I like her 08’s very much. Meadows has given the wines quite a good rap with good scores. I don’t want to pump them up for fear of being accused of touting, but I reckon you’d like them very much Alan.
So there you go Alan - Roy is a lady - but she does ride very fast motorbikes!
She calls the cuvée Alexandrine her baby grand cru - she has no GC or PC - but takes all the millerande bunches from her various village parcels and makes this cuvée with them.
She’s had her wines at the last few IPNCs, last year with Phelps Creek (Columbia Gorge, OR) where she’s a consulting/contributing winemaker and prepares an OR version of Cuvee Alexandrine. Haven’t tried her whites.
