TNs: Odds and ends

  • 2000 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage Brut - France, Champagne (1/31/2010)
This seemed like a slightly off bottle. It was slightly flat on the palate. Nice nose of yeast and citrus-laced apple, and there was a pleasant tang about the palate. But something just seemed dull all around. Not its best showing. B
  • 2002 Scherrer Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Scherrer Vineyards - USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley (1/30/2010)
14.5% alcohol. Another good showing here. Black fruit on the nose, with earth and tobacco. In the mouth, juicy and full of fruit, with a strong supporting background of earth. Very drinkable, the tannins have mostly resolved. A-
  • 2007 Carlisle Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley (1/30/2010)
15.1% alcohol. Greedy to have drunk up three bottles of this, I know. But it’s just so darn good young. Definitely hedonistic, with a jammy, spicy nose of black Zinfandel fruit. In the mouth, powerful and pleasurable. Loads of fruit with a terrific lushness to the palate presence. Terrific stuff. A-
