NV Marie-Noelle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Brut - France, Champagne, Ambonnay, Champagne (6/2/2012)
Slightly oxidized and nutty. Bubbles are tight, palate is a bit sweet. Buttery, but brisp and clean. Vibrant, but a bit heavy on the palate. Almost pinot-like in its’ weight. Good to very good. -
2001 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru (6/2/2012)
An Envoyer ex-cellar purchase…Nose of wet earth, decaying leaves, tart cherry. Nice nose. Palate is sappy red fruit upfront, slight saline notes, and tart cherry. Somewhat angular, it never really fleshes out. Good, not great, but I’m happy overall for the cost involved.
