TNs: NV Marie-Noelle Ledru Brut, 2001 Chandon de Brailles P-V 1er Ile des Verglesses

  • NV Marie-Noelle Ledru Champagne Grand Cru Brut - France, Champagne, Ambonnay, Champagne (6/2/2012)
Slightly oxidized and nutty. Bubbles are tight, palate is a bit sweet. Buttery, but brisp and clean. Vibrant, but a bit heavy on the palate. Almost pinot-like in its’ weight. Good to very good.

An Envoyer ex-cellar purchase…Nose of wet earth, decaying leaves, tart cherry. Nice nose. Palate is sappy red fruit upfront, slight saline notes, and tart cherry. Somewhat angular, it never really fleshes out. Good, not great, but I’m happy overall for the cost involved.

For $30, I really liked the CdB. I also think it will improve from here. Never going to be a rich wine, but this is a leaner style wine with a lot going on with it.

Good wine, good buy, yes.
I do wonder how much, if any, this will improve.
It’s all conjecture, but it felt to me over the course of the night like a wine that was near or at plateau.
