TNs: Misc wines Pax, Carlisle, P2, Viader

a few over the past few weeks:

pax 05 alders spring dark purple, tarred red fruit with a hint of VA full bodied not giving too much on the palate tight overall will wait

carlisle 06 carlisle vineyard zin dark purple lush sweet briary black fruit big rolling mouth o fruit with SMOOTH long finish really really good but no different really, than any other carlisle zin ('07 sonoma county excepted- that wine is weak IMO)

carlisle 07 RRV syrah dark purple sweet dark fruits, touch pepper and spice with medium sized mouth with somewhat tart and clipped finish- ok, well i guess decent average cali syrah

P2 cargasaschi jalama pinot '07 touch cloudy garnet spicy smoky strawberries good acid, nice finish, nice wine for $25

D Colombier Cuvee Gaby Crozes Hermitage '03 deep red scorched earth, smoked red fruits, pepper, exotic spice with lifted mouth feel riding on lots o acid (but not too much) with long finish we have a winner, wotm (month)

Domaine Alfred '07 stainless central coast chardonnary pale yellow, nice bright tropical nose with bizarra, disjointed sweetness on the palate that had my wife saying, what the hell, this smells like SB but tastes like Riesling. grew on me a bit, but still really strange.

P2 '07 Momtazi pinot clear red slightly elusive strawberry and cherry notes with a hint of pine, light to medium in the mouth with pretty flavors, if somewhat simple, decent finish again good for $20

Viader '00 Red (bordeaux blend) dark red mellow nose of cedar currants cassis smoke medium bodied good feel touch tart with nice finish

I don’t know if that 05 Alder springs is ever going to open up. I have enjoyed the 07 Carlisle Sonoma Zin both times i’ve had it.

Ha! Drinking the '05 Pax Alder right now and it’s exactly as you both described.
Just wrapped up. Grape juice right now, even after two hours in decanter.
Problem for me…this is how all my various Pax experiences have been lately.
Perhaps I just drink them too young.

i opened the pax only because every now and then i ask my 2 year old daughter to go and grab something of her choice- that is what she picked out. makes me open something i might otherwise not.

Dennis, the 05 Griffin and Castelli i thought were both pretty good, but the Alder Springs hasn’t budged a bit in 2 yrs. maybe it’s too young but damn you’d think it would open up a little. I know a lot of people dig that vineyard but other than Rudius i haven’t enjoyed anything from there.

I hear you Joe. My last glass last night hadn’t budged and that was four hours after the wine had hit the decanter.
