I am WAY behind on this. But work has been getting in the way lately. Great to see Bill down in the big city
Excellent afternoon and always a welcome visit.

1975 Château Suduiraut - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (1/23/2010)
13.5% alcohol. Tremendous bottle of this wine. Honeyed color that tipped off the rich, honeyed palate. Nose of apricots, dried peaches, flowers, and honey. In the mouth, viscous and beautiful, while simultaneously refreshing. Honey, apricot, and the essence of peach lurking in the background. Refreshing acidity. Long finish. Beautifully youthful but seemingly at the perfect stage of drinking. A -
1975 Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/23/2010)
12.0% alcohol. Third time I’ve had this and the best bottle. Always a terrific wine, this bottle was a notch above. Rusty color. Gorgeous, mature nose of cedar, rich earth, tobacco, and pretty black fruit. In the mouth, balanced, elegant, and expressive. Caresses the palate with profound complexity and still-fresh fruit. Long finish. Fully integrated. Rick Forman is a master. A-/A -
1996 Kongsgaard Syrah - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/23/2010)
14.1% alcohol. This is showing remarkably well. A frankly stunning wine. Dark red color, not showing its age except perhaps by a slight lightening over the years. Gorgeous nose of red and black fruit, flowers, and a meaty edge. In the mouth, a peppery note shows up with the pure, concentrated, and perfectly balanced fruit profile. Caressing, with excellent palate presence. This is a true delight, with a finishing kick that sends it to another level. A -
2006 Outpost Zinfandel - USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain (1/23/2010)
16.2% alcohol. Doesn’t really show the alcohol on the nose or palate. Jammy and pretty refined, with excellent focus. A spicy, black-fruited wine that has a remarkable sense of elegance. Not very acidic, so it seems like a short-term drinker, but it is delicious. A- -
2007 Turley Zinfandel Juvenile - USA, California (1/23/2010)
15.9% alcohol. Big wine. Classic Turley. Instructive to drink alongside the Outpost. This seemed juvenile – more rustic, less balanced, but still jammy and quite tasty. Black fruit with a good amount of spice. Not a shy wine and also strong quality. B+ -
2007 Williams Selyem Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/23/2010)
14.5% alcohol. Spicy nose of brambly black fruit. In the mouth, juicy and substantial, packing a solid punch of fruit and spice. Strong finish. A-
