TN's: Jacquesson, Two 1999 Barolos and Boisset

Last night I went over to Alan Gottlieb’s for dinner. Alan decided to try the two Barolo’s that Rico didn’t in his tasting.
So here goes.

With a nice meal which included Crab Cakes, Parma Ham, Wild Mushroom Risotto and Veal Chop…

NV 733 Jacquesson Champagne

An intriguing nose. Some nuttiness but the main push is citrus. At once a little yeasty also. I liked this. Refreshing balance and still quite young.
The rest of mine are going to get a couple of years of age. This should be stunning with time.

1999 Giuseppi Mascarello Barolo Monprivato

When cold the nose was a little reticent. With warming the nose just explodes. Cherry. Tar. Rose damask. The nose is intoxicating.
The palate is big and loaded with wonderful fruit. The tannins are supporting. There is a hint of that white truffle note that you get on the finish that comes with aging. Wonderful length. This is young, open and absolutely singing. Profound.

1999 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia

Even with extended aeration, the nose here is still a little shy. There is nice very focused cherry fruit here and some tar type of notes. Not much else at this point. The palate is fantastic. Cherry fruit on the finish. So focused here. An elegance too. Starting to lose the crunch of the fruit and integrate. This just needs some time. Should become a stunning wine. All the components are there.

2002 Boisset Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards

What a nose. Floral bright red fruit. Perfect Volnay! Singing out of the glass. The palate shows good balance of fruit to acid. The finish really lingers and leaves a sense of bright cleansing fruit. Extraordinary and still has some evolution to go!

Nice night.
Thanks Alan as always for your generosity.

Nice notes - very similar to what we found we opened the '01 GM Barolo, though I felt I had killed it far too early.

My wife and I enjoyed a bottle of '96 Jacquesson in May and found it to be stunning. I confess that I have more apprehension in laying down champagne, as there are diverging schools of thought about how soon it should be consumed after disgorgement. But The '96 Jacquesson was stellar with many of the characteristics you describe.
