TNs: I like Adam Lee's wines

  • 2004 Siduri Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/8/2009)
15.3% alcohol. Bright red color. Somewhat subdued nose of black cherry, plum, and floral-laced baking spice. In the mouth, round and ripe, with plum and blackberry fruit, solid acidity, and a pretty floral note. Strong finish if marred by a bit of heat. B+
  • 2008 Novy Family Wines Chardonnay Keefer Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/8/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Light yellow color. Quite simple but tasty. Juicy apple fruit laced with minerals. Tasty, smooth, and light. Refreshing and a good quaffer. B+
  • 2006 Siduri Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain (12/6/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Very light red color. Aromatic nose that is classic Van der Kamp Vineyard – black cherry, minerals, and deep earth. In the mouth, young but quite fleshy and open. Loads of black cherry fruit, an elegant presentation of plenty of earth, and quite pronounced acidity. A touch of tannins on the finish. This is structured as you’d expect from VdK and quite delicious. B+/A-
  • 2007 Siduri Pinot Noir Sonoma County - USA, California, Sonoma County (12/6/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Arguably the best value Pinot from California in a great vintage. Black cherry, earth, and spice on the nose. Delightfully elegant and fruit-forward on the palate. Lush but not overblown, retaining great elegance and texture. Pure and tasty. A-

good title. I agree.

Well let’s find something we can disagree about instead, John. There’s no money to be made in agreement.

Nice notes Tom. I love the earthiness from VDK and hardly ever see anyone post notes on them.

Tom, send me some 07 Sonoma County seeing as I’ve resorted to Little Penguin. Thanks!

Joe – such an under the radar vineyard. I love VdK Pinots. Totally rocking stuff.

Jeb – last bottle  Sorry!

I opened two bottles of 2004 Novy RRV Syrah on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at a steakhouse in NY with a large family group. The wines were very well received and I thought these were excellent. Very nice blue and red fruit with no sweet jammy-ness. There was spice, acidity leading me to believe that the wine has legs, and excellent balance. This was the first Adam Lee wine I bought and I have almost finished the original case that I got on release. No bad bottles and depending on my mood, somewhere in the high 80s to low 90s. So far, I do not recall having a bad Novy or Siduri wine.

Nice, Jay. Adam makes very good Syrah. Had a 2004 Susan’s not long ago, and it was smoking good. He’s a conscientious, passionate winemaker who is as much as student of winemaking as anything else. I’ve always respected how open, honest, and constantly thirsty for new methods and information he is about the process. It’s ended up teaching me a lot over the years.

Yeah yeah yeah, Tom… surrrrrrrrrre it was the last bottle. Clearly you’re sitting on a pinot gold mine down there in Houston. I’m on to you. neener

So do I.
Especially his 2005s…

TTT

Amen, Paul. The 2005s are so delightful. I’m keeping my grubby hands off them for another year.

Tom, How many bottles of pinot do you think have just resting and avoiding your grubby hands? haha

I’m enjoying a '05 Novy Syah Susan’s Hill at this very moment. I can’t argue with the title either.

Nice … 05 Susan’s rocks, too.

Jeb – More than 20, which is as high as I can count on my fingers and toes
