TN's: Holiday Wines- Myriad, Far Niente, Cade etc...

  • 2007 The Treat Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/3/2012)
Decanted 1.5 hours prior to first glass and then 3 hours to the second glass. This got better with air and had a nice nose of black fruit, and a little lead ?. Very much a cab. It is really nice on the whole palate and is ample in the mouth if that makes any sense. I still think it is a baby. (93 pts.)
  • 1999 Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro - Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico (1/3/2012)
This was medium brown color and stank like vinegar. NR (flawed)
  • 2005 Domaine de la Presidente Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grands Classiques - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/2/2012)
I liked this fine but it did not blow me away like other CDP’s have. I did not take formal notes but from what I gathered it is ready to go. (87 pts.)
  • 2003 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (1/1/2012)
Just a beautiful example of Cabernet from Napa. Dark fruit, tobacco, a little black pepper, so well rounded. Paired perfectly with the Kobe strip I had and this was my wine of the last week. Really great. (94 pts.)
  • 2008 Myriad Cellars Syrah Esther Block Las Madres Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Carneros (1/1/2012)
This was wowza good. Had this as the last bottle of the night and it blew everything else away. Favors of red fruit, loam, tobacco made this beauty great but the long finish and smoothness. My first time having this and really enjoyed it. (93 pts.)
  • 2004 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos Tri de Chavigne - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Pierreclos (1/1/2012)
Just another great bottle, that reiterates the previous two…these may be my deals of the year. (92 pts.)
  • 2003 Dutch Henry Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Northfork Reserve Chafen Vineyards Hillside Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/1/2012)
Had this a year ago and it seemed old and past it’s prime. Found a bottle of this I had left down here in Naples and took it to a casual dinner and it was really nice. I don’t think it has too much life left but it was really balanced. Didn’t take formal notes, but thought it was really nice. (90 pts.)
  • 2007 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain (1/1/2012)
Had last night. Nice nose, a little alcoholic butit was pop and wait 30 minutes no decant. I liked this but not as much as the 2006. (90 pts.)
  • 2009 EnRoute Pinot Noir Les Pommiers - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (1/1/2012)
My style of Pinot, bigger bolder and more fruit forward. The perfume and floral notes are there but take a secondary role in this. (90 pts.)
  • 2007 JC Cellars Grenache Ventana - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (12/30/2011)
I have to disagree with the other notes on this. i opened this after a dinner one night while my family and i played catchphrase. It was only opened 30 minutes prior to drinking, and i thought it was drinking really well. It was really fruity which was fine because it was after dinner so it was not competing with any other flavors. It is incredibly dark colored. I enjoyed it, but will give my next one more air to see if it improves, however I am not sure it needs to. (89 pts.)
  • 2004 Pillar Rock Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District (12/24/2011)
I really loved this complex balanced wine. My mother in law had a case of these so we took one to dinner and decanted about 1/5 hours. This was really nice. Dark fruit with a little ash and some muted chocolate notes. Went great with the rich steaks we had. (93 pts.)
  • 2006 Tom Eddy Cabernet Sauvignon Elodian - USA, California, Napa Valley (12/24/2011)
Had this the same night as the pillar rock and it was just not as good. I still really enjoyed it. It had not as intense fruit and had some saddle leather and cassis. I thought this was a nice wine but with our steaks it did not hold up as well as the Pillar Rock. (90 pts.)
  • 2005 Domaine Joseph Roty Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (12/21/2011)
Really mineral flavors to being and some strong cat pee…this subdued after being open about 30 minutes into a really nice everyday drinker. (88 pts.)
