Tns hodge podge of wines

  • 2003 Joseph Phelps Insignia - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/24/2012)
Smoke, black pepper and kirsch. A hint of leather. The palae is medium weight with nice dark and red fruits, a hint of oak still, a dusty presence and a long finish that dries out in the end. Very good, elegant wine at this point.

  • 2007 Vineyard 29 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru - USA, California, Napa Valley, St. Helena (4/22/2012)
nose of currants and smoke. wet leaves. medium wt palate w blackberries chocolate and oak. some drying tannins. good wine

  • 2009 Alpha Omega Cabernet Sauvignon Caspar Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford (4/21/2012)
Bright cranberry nose with some cocoa. A young brash nose if there ever was one. The palate is both young and deep with nice chocolate note, ripe fruit, baking spices. Tight finish. I opened these too young.

  • 2005 Jones Family The Sisters - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/18/2012)
Blackberries and raspberries on the one and palate. Smooth and a little less ripe than the last bottle. Nicer structure also. Long finish with some tannins to spare. Geat wine for the price.

  • 2006 Two Hands Cabernet Sauvignon Charlie’s Patch - USA, California, Napa Valley (4/18/2012)
Great nose of vanilla and dark berries. The palate is very dusty, with a gritty extreme and a little less ripeness than I like. Good, not great. Clipped finish.

  • 2007 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/18/2012)
Sweet nose of cranberries and blackberries. Te palate is sweet up front, very smooth and mellowed than expected. Lots of ripe fruits and a little herbal note. Very good, better than I thought it would be.

  • 2009 Sea Smoke Chardonnay Gratis - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills - Sta. Rita Hills (4/18/2012)
Buttery oak in the nose. Nice Brit fruit, but lots of oak in the palate too. Popular with the ladies, but I didn’t love it. Never look a gift horse though…

  • 2004 Bodega Numanthia Termes Toro Termes - Spain, Castilla y León, Toro (4/12/2012)
Ripe nose with chocolate, decomposing vegetation, and ripe berries. The palate is hefty but full of bright red berries and a little sweet chocolate. Lots of oak though. Drying finish. Good for what it is.

  • 2005 Turley Zinfandel Rattlesnake Ridge - USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain (4/8/2012)
Olive tapenade, confectioner’s sugar, earth and black pepper on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with raspberries, some herbal elements and white pepper. Somewhat clipped on the finish. Good, not great.

  • 2006 Aston Estate Pinot Noir Clone 777 - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/8/2012)
Muddy, almost brown color is not appetizing. The nose is all wet earth and leaves with some it’s of ark fruits. The palate has some medicinal notes behind the fully ripe, but watery and acid less fruit. Bad bottle or shitty Pinot. Can’t tell. Not corked.

The Sisters in the 2005 vintage was not my favorite. (I had one about 10 days ago). 3 left. Will see where it goes.
Same for the Charlies. According to CT, I have 49 bottles of assorted Nap Cabs from 2005. Wish I had…less.(Anyone interested, hit me up).
Thanks for posting.

I hear you. Pretty dramatic bottle variation in 05 too. That was probably the best 05 sisters ive had. So hard to resist for 30 bucks though…

Too bad about the Lillian. You should let Maggie know. I had a 2005 about a year ago that was horribly corked. Maggie was great about replacement. She sent the same vintage with my next order.

She did. Maggie is a goddess
