This post is for those who think I only open DRC, Rousseau, MG and Krug.
2016 Hudelot Noellat Bourgogne Rouge
My one loose bottle of this which was fantastic, some sappy red fruits and nice acidity with a surprisingly long finish.
2017 Hudelot Noellat Bourgogne Rouge
A bit softer than the 16, but very elegant and an equally long finish. Really drinking well.
NV Diebolt-Vallois Prestige BDB
Very fresh, with a nice acidic bite and streak of oyster shell, with a super finish. Such a great value.
2017 PYCM Bourgogne Blanc
Textbook white burg, with lemon curd and saline minerality. Super pleasurable finish.
2009 Suduiraut
Manuka honey and overripe pineapple on the nose, streak of acidity and lively palate with immensely long finish. Would give the Yquem a run for its money.
Any thoughts from the party guests, Michael? I’m always interested in how the visitors/wine curious folks enjoy a nice lineup. Any particularly fun reactions?
People LOVED the hudelot; we ended up opening 3 bottles of the 17. The Suduiraut was also a big hit. I would’ve thought the champagne would be a favorite and the people that tried it liked it but 75% of people asked for red wine. Multiple people asked where they could source the hudelot and Suduiraut haha.
To be fair, both hudelot were beautiful last night with lovely pure fruits, plush palate, nice finish, and very soft, barely noticeable tannins; to people used to drinking grocery store wines it was likely a monumental step up and by all standards it was fantastic. Our guests were parents of my daughter’s classmates so it wasn’t a wine-centric event, but very fun.
Yeah it’s fantastic for sure, but we were lucky and all the wines showed well.
On another note, I went to restock my undercounter fridge and decided to toss some more interesting wines in there. Usually it’s just a case of 2017 hudelot Bourgogne, a case of 2017 PYCM BB, a case of various rose, and a case of various champagne mostly Krug 168, but I’ve been lazy and was just tossing stuff I received in there since there were empty spaces instead of bringing it down to the cellar so it had all sorts of crazy wines I didn’t want to open in it last night. I restocked with some cool drinkers like 21/22 guyon Bourgogne, 21 felettig chambolle VV, some 19 Moreau chasssgne rouge vv, more Sauternes/krug, and a 375 of 11 Magdelaine in honor of @Robert.A.Jr
