Yes … it was a long day.

2001 Patrick Lesec Châteauneuf-du-Pape Kristial - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (12/25/2009)
14.0% alcohol. A bit odd. Somewhat funky, but not bretty. Dry and earthy on the nose, with a leather note. In the mouth, drying but with a good hit of black fruit and some pepper. A bit too earthy for my tastes. It seemed disjointed. B -
2006 Kenwood Zinfandel Jack London Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (12/25/2009)
14.5% alcohol. Dark red color. Oak-filled nose of black fruit, with oak spice masking what, if any, berry spice is there. In the mouth, the oak gives it a bitter edge. There is briary black fruit up front, but the oak and a kick of heat on the finish masks it. B -
N.V. Domaine Chandon Brut Classic - USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville (12/25/2009)
12.0% alcohol. Light straw color. Lovely nose of green apple and minerals. In the mouth, simple but refreshing, with a yeasty edge to the apple fruit, bright acidity, and a solid finish. Excellent QPR and a step up in this wine from the past couple years. B+ -
N.V. Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne Brut Rosé - France, Champagne (12/25/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Pale salmon color. Lovely nose of cherry, brioche, stony minerals, and bright citrus. Lively and pure in the mouth, with great elegance but enough of the Pinot power to pair very well with food. Slightly tart cherry fruit, apple, citrus, yeasty overtones, and a bit of chalk. Terrific acidity. Long finish. This is just delightful. A-
