2007 Carlisle Syrah Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/21/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Decanted. Deep red color, like pomegranate. Sumptuous nose of brilliant blue and black fruits, with a meaty edge to the earth and pepper notes. In the mouth, this has become more brawny over the past six months. Still plush and delicious fruit, with a plum note added to the blue and black fruit, and great complexity led by briary pepper. Strong acidity and quite ripe tannins. Deliciious. A- -
2006 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Noir Trenton View - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/18/2009)
14.6% alcohol. Very light red color. Gorgeously aromatic, with red cherry, strawberry, and black cherry leading the way, buttressed by baking spice and flowers. In the mouth, quite plush but also retaining a great sense of balance and elegance. Terrific fruit all the way, underscored by mineral and floral notes, along with bright acidity that cuts the rich texture of the wine. Long finish. This is drinking beautifully now. A- -
2002 Ridge Geyserville - USA, California, Sonoma County (10/16/2009)
14.6% alcohol. Dark red color. Compelling bouquet of black fruit, spice, and earth but with a hint of port notes lingering. In the mouth, lush and ripe but maintaining a nice freshness and focus. Powerful black and raspberry fruit comes through, with a wild spice component. Good acidity. Strong finish. Really just starting to come into its own, gaining that Claret-like complexity that these Ridge wines can take on. A-
