  • 1990 Château Troplong Mondot - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (4/8/2011)
    WOTN: Rich plum and darck black cherry fruit with a hint of licorice. Minute long finish. Larger than life fruit for a wine of this age. A beast. Fat. Lacked some of the secondary nuances - but who cared! (97 pts.)
  • 1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (4/8/2011)
    Young, swet nose. Silky tannins on entry. Mouthfeel was great with earthiness, cherry, cassi, cedar and some pineneedles. Still really young. Gained weight as evening progressed and got fatter. (96 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Palmer - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (4/8/2011)
    Second fave of night. Teeth smacking awesome. Thick, chewy. Lots of big black fruit. Balck cherry, black berry, plum. Some licorice in the background. Very complex but very accessible. 1.5 hour decant. This will be a beauty in a decade. (96 pts.)
  • 1995 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (4/8/2011)
    Just htink this is too young to drink and will get better. Nice red cherry fruit and cassis. Great food wine, lots of acidity that worked well with meaty dish. Finish was a bit clipped. Decanted for one hour. (93 pts.)
  • 1990 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (4/8/2011)
    Georgeous wine that had the whole package. Started a but tight on a pop and pour. Nice cigar box component with red mature cherries. Wellintegrated oak. At peak for my tastes. (92 pts.)
  • 1998 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (4/8/2011)
    Elegant, needs time. A bit dry and too much oak at this stage. Cherry fruit is behind the oak for now. Not integrated yet. Big structure. Will it come together? (88 pts.)
  • 1998 Château Péby Faugères - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (4/8/2011)
    Tight and had a green tinge. Some sourness that I couldn’t get over. Vary tart. Give this another 5 years. Fruit is there but needs to evolve. May be in a wierd state. (86 pts.)
  • 1990 Château Beychevelle - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (4/8/2011)
    A bit barnyardy on the nose. tar box, hollow mid palate with some atringent acid and cedar. Mouthfeel was pinotesque, lacked viscocoty. Some rose pedal fruit, light color, expected worse. But as night progressed it detriorate rapidly to below an 80 rating. (85 pts.)

Great set of wines there Rich. The 86 PLL is really coming along and I agree the 00 Palmer is fantastic but could use a decade to mellow out a bit more.

It looks like you enjoyed the 90 TM and 90 LB much more than we did when we had our little 90 Bdx tasting. We thought the Barton would need at the very least another 5 years to start coming into its own. I haven’t had the 86 Lalande in a while but I thought it was destined to be a very good wine.
