2003 Château Rieussec - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (2/4/2012)
The nose shows little. The palate is viscous and sweet with honey, stone fruits and ripe white berries. Missing acid and also missing something in the mid palate. Opened two half bottles and had similar impressions…

2005 Corra Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (2/4/2012)
Badly corked.
-
2006 Jaffurs Syrah Verna’s - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (2/4/2012)
Dark and brooding nose with raw beef and BBQ notes. The palate is viscous and delicious with more dark fruits and tasty meaty notes. Still some solid tannins and loooong on the finish. Delicious with steak.

2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2/4/2012)
Oh my kind of nose. Dark berries, BBQ sauce, herbal notes, game…the palate is medium to full bodied and full of bright berries, great acid, gamey notes and floral hints. A delicious and long finish. I love this wine.

2008 Aubert Pinot Noir UV Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (2/4/2012)
Young and boozy at first, needing about two hours of air to soften up enough to drink. The nose is enormous with dark fruits and plums. The palate is still somewhat disjointed but shows lots of promise with dark berries, sme herbal notes, oak, and some booze. The finish is a little tannic. These need to sleep. Must…be…patient…

2009 Martinelli Pinot Noir Grace Nicole Zio Tony Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (2/4/2012)
Ripe but inviting nose of black cherries, berry compote and some flowers followed by a deep and surprising palate of ripe dark berries, earth and mushrooms. As it airs redder fruit comes out. Seamless and perfectly balanced, continually improves with air. A crazy good wine already.

2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Cuvée Karatas - USA, California, Sonoma County (2/4/2012)
Lime, stone fruits and mineral on the nose. The palate starts with an attack that seems like its going to lead to sweet peach with the density to match then changes abruptly to more minerals and some herbs. Long on the finish. Very interesting wine.

2005 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valley - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (1/31/2012)
Smoked BBQ nose with blackberries, olives and meats. The palate is big but smoothe with some mild BBQ sauce, raspberry, beef and some herbs. A little clipped in the finish but if it opens with air…wow!
-
2008 Epoch Estate Wines Ingenuity Paderewski Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (1/31/2012)
Smokey, ripe nose of blackberries. Lots of smokey beef. The palate
has more smokey beef and some nice black fruit favors. Drying tannins contend that the wine is very young. Needs a lot of time.

2008 Harris Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Jakes Creek - USA, California, Napa Valley (1/27/2012)
Great nose of blueberries, coffee and chocolate. The palate is thick and smooth with more ripe berries and some oak. Creamy and long. Sweet finish. A big wine that either got soft in a hurry or there’s a little bottle variation because it was much more vibrant and in your ace ten months ago. Either way great drink. -
2009 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Russell Family Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (1/27/2012)
Big big nose. Syrah like in it’s size and intensity. Blackberries and licorice. The palate is big and concentrated but structured and delicious. Lots of ripe red fruits with healthy sustaining acidity. Almost crunchy. Long finish with a hint of cola. I like this a lot for what it is.
-
2006 Lucia Syrah Garys’ Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (1/26/2012)
Big big big nose with oak, blueberries, smoke and a little dust. The palate is big as well with ripe strawberry and raspberry favors. Nice acid and long finish but simple? I like it for the price…
-
2006 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/20/2012)
Interesting nose at first with some overripe fruit that blows off to reveal nice notes of ripe figs, purple flowers and some bbq sauce. The palate is intense in its dark fruits and crisp acidity but boasting medium weight and rapidly changing character. I really enjoyed the changes in this wine over minutes and days. Still potent and intresting on day 4. A very good CDP that should gain some harmony over the next few years.
