TNs: a mini Beaurenard Boisrenard CdP vertical

I drank these over the past couple of weeks at different times.

1999 Beaurenard Boisrenard is still so damn lean and tightly wound. There are some dark coffee notes to go with the black fruit aromas. On the palate it comes across as lean and austere but there is the feeling that if you could pull back some layers there is plenty of fruit. This doesn’t seem to have budged since release. I kept a bit and on day three, it did seem to make some progress. Hopefully this comes around in the next decade.

2000 Beaurenard Boisrenard has the best nose of the three with blackberries, violets, mocha-coffee notes. Probably also shows the most oak on the palate maybe because it is the most expressive of the three. Tannins do come out on the finish. I think this improves some over time.

2001 Beaurenard Boisrenard is probably between the 1999 and 2000 in both drinkability and structure. There is more red than black fruit with spicy oak notes on the nose. Shows fairly well on the mid-palate with good grip and density. Has a lot of fruit to counterbalance the oak. Tannins are there but not too obtrusive.

Paul, thanks for the notes. If I am sitting on 3 bottles of the 2001 when would you recommend dipping in? It seems that maybe I like my CDP a little younger than you, but it also seems like I want to wait a few more years (my general stance on all of my 2001’s) to touch the first.

Thanks for the notes, Paul. I have seen some progress with the 1999 over the last four years, but its been from “undrinkably over-wooded” to “tight and overwooded with some hope in five years time.”

Eric, I would wait 2-3 years or you can pop one soon to see what it’s like. For some reason, I bought a bunch of 2001 so if you like it, I’m happy to send you a couple bottles.

Last year I had the '93 of the straight Beaurenard CdP. A bottle I had randomly aged and opened for a cellar-culling party I threw for people who supported me in a charity cycling event. Suprisingly good, CdP-ey and interesting despite having almost no structure whatsoever. If 15yrs is that kind to their basic wine in a meh year …

This estate seems to be ignored anymore.

Paul,

Thx for the notes. I am still holding a couple of bottles of the 98 vintage and maybe a bottle of the 90 vintage. Not to hijack this thread but has anyone had any experience with these wines recently?

Paul.

Thanks for the notes I own the 00 and 01, so this is really helpful.
