I bought both the 86 Talbot and 86 Gruaud way back when, close to 30 yrs ago, don’t remember either one being expensive, also loaded up on the 89 Gruaud, also not expensive…Wish I still had some…Stopped buying Boredough after the 90 vintage.

I generally prefer the 86 Talbot to the 86 Gruaud. Both are great.
That said, my first truly expensive wine purchase was the 86 Gruaud in 1995 for … ~$25. I went crazy and bought 3. Oh the naïveté of youth!
The '86 Talbot is super good. But the '86 Gruaud is superb. For me, Gruaud lorded it over all its Cordier stable-mates from 1981 to 1990.
Then, in my opinion, Talbot overtook Gruaud in the 90’s and up until the 2005 vintage.
