2005 Forey Père et Fils Bourgogne - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (11/21/2009)
13.0% alcohol. Opened overnight, and it needed the air. This is youthful and delightful, and it will develop into an absolutely terrific wine with more age. Bright cherry color. Tremendous but tight bouquet of red cherry, earth, minerals, and flowers. Very well concentrated on the palate, still youthfully brawny, but with terrific texture. Loaded with fruit and balanced nicely with complexity. Strong acidity and a fair bit of ripe tannin on the finish. Real value here. A- -
2004 Domaine Robert Arnoux Bourgogne Pinot Fin - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (11/20/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Pretty wine at this level, showing no greenness of 2004. Cherry red color. Lovely bouquet of red cherry, minerals, and earth. In the mouth, a bit rustic but with good, light fruit that dances across the tongue and interplays nicely with unapologetic earthiness. Strong acidity. Some tannins on the finish. Still on the young side. B+ -
2002 Domaine Michel Gros Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits (11/18/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Light red color, showing faint signs of some age. Took about 30 minutes to open up, but it did to reveal very pretty dried cherry, floral, and mineral notes. In the mouth, gentle and velvety, with terrific cherry fruit and a deep earthy note. Very smooth and balanced. Strong finish. Drinking beautifully. A- -
2006 Maison Albert Bichot Pinot Noir Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (11/18/2009)
12.5% alcohol. Very light but a tremendous value at $10. Light red color, clear at the rim of the glass. Nose of strong minerals and pure, stony cherry fruit. In the mouth, acid-laden cherry and minerals, with bright acidic structure. Solid finish. Good Pinot character and outstanding value. B/B+
