2004 J. Rochioli Pinot Noir Estate Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/22/2009)
14.2% alcohol. Black cherry color. Strikingly ripe on the nose, with rich black cherry, blackberry, deep black fruit notes joined by light spice character. This is a big-fruited wine that is fairly one dimensional at this stage. Plush in the mouth, smooth, and quite tasty, it retains good acidity. You just hope for more out of this bottling. B+ -
2005 Siduri Pinot Noir Rosella’s Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (6/18/2009)
14.1% alcohol. As ever, a lovely wine. Bright cherry color. Nose is classic Rosella’s and really coming into its own: black cherry, blackberry, that unique grapefruit note, and a hint of spice. In the mouth, linear and pure, with a certain degree of lushness that hints at the texture to come with a few more years in bottle. Fruit-forward all the way, with a bit of restraint showing still. It’s youthful, to be sure, but it is starting to unwind. Should really be hitting stride in 12-18 months. A- -
2005 Scherrer Winery Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines Alexander Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley (6/15/2009)
14.5% alcohol. Impressively fragrant at this stage. Loads of spicy, juicy black berry jump out of the glass and dominate the palate. Thoroughly enjoyable thanks to the purity of fruit and elegance in profile. Endearing and tasty. A- -
2006 Tercero Mourvedre Camp 4 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (6/15/2009)
14.4% alcohol. Really noticed the cranberry fruit in this bottle. Quite light and refreshing. More linear than the last bottle, although all three have been consistent and enjoyable. B+/A-
