TNs: A couple randoms (G. Farrell and sparkling Vouvray)

  • 2005 Gary Farrell Chardonnay Rochioli Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/23/2009)
14.3% alcohol. Light yellow color. Reticent bouquet that showed more oak than anticipated, with a touch of lemon zest framing the apple fruit. In the mouth, somewhat flat. The lemon zest note lifts up the palate a bit, but this is a bit plodding and boring, with good acidity, and a touch of heat on the finish. The oak is influential. Not what I expected or hoped from this bottle. B/B+
  • N.V. Domaine de Vaugondy Vouvray Brut - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (12/23/2009)
12.0% alcohol. Charming enough nose of minerals, apple, and a touch of brioche. In the mouth, very strange. Light and refreshing, but there is an unmistakable note of raw jalapeno pepper. Bright acidity. Somewhat off-putting. C
