TNs: A Couple of 05 Burg Cheapies

2005 Gerard Mugneret Bourgogne Rouge
There’s been some panning of red Bourgognes over the past several months. Some can suck, but this aint one. Medium weight and trilling like a meadowlark from the first pour. Harmonious and facile. The top soil and herbs compliment the red fruit. Bright balanced acidity…and an enjoyable medium finish. It added mass overnight. Not a wine to study but an entertaining flexible food companion. Only bought two of these at $25…a mistake.

2005 Domaine Thenard Givry Clos St. Pierre
Following the guilt-free enjoyable Bourgogne, this was next. Initially more delicate than the Bourgogne and a bit higher toned, it started somewhat fragile but built in from the back. Mineral flecked delicate red fruit. Good acidity with some silty tannins. The tannins suggest that a few more years might benefit it, but the fruit and overall structure are ready now. Just fine for a casual Sunday night with leftover King Salmon. Not sure I’d buy more for $30 but absolutely no regrets. My wife tasted it and commented on the 3 good Pinots in a row from the cellar…what was she trying to say!? [pwn.gif]
