  • 1999 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (3/12/2011)
    Opened and aired out in the glass for an hour. Paired with rosemary lamb chops. Still dark purple color. Nose of pepper, blackberries, garrigue, raw beef. Wonderfully delineated and varied flavors on the tongue including bacon, pepper, black plum, and currant all exhibiting a tangy exuberance yet also great precision. Nice acidity and filed off tannins. Finish long and evocative of smoke and ringing black fruit. So much going on with this wine, it is incredibly interesting and hedonsitic at the same time. (93 pts.)
  • 2002 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Schlossberg Cuvée Ste. Catherine - France, Alsace, Kientzheim, Alsace Grand Cru AOC (3/12/2011)
    Tried this with sushi and potstickers. Chilled outside, then popped and poured. Honey gold color. Nose of petrol, honeydew, apricot, florals. Surprisingly viscous and oily on the palate (not objectionable at all), yielding tastes of honey, grapefruit, and a flash of pineapple at the end. Minerality throughout. Lovely acidity and subtle but aristocratic structure. Echoing finish of stones and overlying tropical fruit. Interesting evolution, has years to go. (91 pts.)

Thanks for the notes. I’ve had a number of Jamet Cote-Roties and believe that the 1999 is at the top. Fabulous producer and wine.

Fabulous wine indeed (thread here). As for my very favorite Jamet, for me it is between the '91 and the '99, which are very different wines but both beautiful. And I have but one bottle left of the '91, so I think this fall I’ll open it alongside a '99 Jamet. Maybe I’ll decide which I like better, but I won’t feel compelled to rank them, I suspect.

Glad I am among fans here of both wines. The Jamet was great, and still quite young. Next bottle perhaps 3 years hence if I can wait that long. I get the impression that the 02 Weinbach Ste Catherine is aging glacially.
