Tns - '88 Barthod CM Charmes, '99 Arnoux Suchots, Canard-Duchenes NV Brut

No rhyme nor reason here.

Canard-Duchenes NV Brut-
I need to find out exactly what lot this is from. It is one of the best NV Bruts that I have tasted in a long time. It is perfectly balanced and dry with loads of crisp detail. Lovely stuff.

’99 Arnoux Vosne-Romanee Suchots-
This is excellent but still tight. I will wait a few years before opening another. It clearly is well balanced with loads of Vosne-ish character but it is like a sail that is wrapped and yet to unfurl. Will be great one day.

’88 Barthod Chambolle Musigny Charmes 1er-
This is very '88 with lots of detail and even more structure and acidity. In fact, I think it is s a great example of how high acidity impacts a wines overall structural balance. In this case, I don’t think the fruit will ever win the battle as this is still pretty austere and the fruit is running out of steam. Still enjoyable and mature but not great.

You’re the first person I’ve ever heard of who had a good bottle of Canard Duchene… are you sure it wasn’t a prank?

I heard something about their having regained some prime vineyards back after leasing them to a major house. I don’t really know…but it’s great champagne and I have tasted it twice now.
