2000 Château Jeandeman - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (2/3/2012)
– tasted a couple glasses non-blind over approx. 30 minutes –
– bottle had been open for 30 - 60 minutes before tasting –
NOSE: very expressive, and with good complexity: chalky spearmint; leathery cherry; cherry Twizzlers licorice.
BODY: ruby color of medium depth, with slight lightening at the edges; medium bodied.
TASTE: black cherry fruit with a hint of leather; strong mineral aspect; light concentration of fruit; 13% alc. well-hidden; fine tannin and adequate acidity; well-balanced between alc./tannin/acid, but I feel this needs more of everything (fruit, tannin, and acid) to be an ager, so drink now. Really, the Nose carries this wine to the very bottom of the excellent range, as it’s otherwise very good.
B: 50, 5, 13, 15, 7 = (90 pts.)

2008 Domaine de Cauroy Chablis - France, Burgundy, Chablis (2/3/2012)
– tasted a couple glasses non-blind over approx. 30 minutes –
NOSE: salty; crisp; almost Sauvignon Blanc-esque.
BODY: vibrant green-yellow color; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: typical Chardonnay fruit, but not buttery or austere; good minerality; ample lactic acidity; long finish of moderate intensity; open; 13% alc. well-hidden; good typicity; solid; drink now.
B: 50, 5, 11, 16, 7 = (89 pts.)

2008 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Estate Bottled Knox Alexander - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (2/3/2012)
– tasted a single glass non-blind over 10 - 15 minutes –
Garnet color of medium-light depth. Nose is oaky, with warm red berry tones, as well as some florals – reminds me of a Paso Pinot. Medium bodied on the palate. Palate is clean, with oaky spice and oaky strawberry. 13.5% alc. is not noticeable. Too warm-fruited and oaky for me.
B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 6 = (87 pts.)

2005 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay Santa Barbara County - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (2/3/2012)
– tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 15 - 20 minutes –
Golden yellow color of medium to medium-deep depth. Nose is dominated by oak and strong buttery Chardonnay aromas. Medium to medium-full bodied on the palate, which follows from the Nose with its strong, buttery, and ripe typical Chard. flavors. It appears age has started to relax this wine a bit, as it’s devoid of any tension. 13.5% alc. is not noticeable. Good-not-great, to my palate. I preferred the more elegant '06 to this '05. This is a well-made wine, it’s just not my style. Gut impression score: mid 80’s.

2006 Au Bon Climat Chardonnay Santa Barbara County - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (2/3/2012)
– tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 15 - 20 minutes –
Lighter and crispier Nose and Palate presence than the '05 at this stage. Hint of sulfur on the Nose. Good acidity; leaner than the '05; long finish of medium-strong intensity. 13.5% alc. not noticeable. Very nice, but nothing amazing. This could, perhaps, be mistaken for a ripe Burgundy-satellite offering (i.e.: P-V), whereas the '05 is unmistakeably Californian with its big brawny butteriness. Gut impression score: high 80’s.

2008 M. Doudet-Naudin St. Véran - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, St. Véran (2/3/2012)
– tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 10 minutes –
Orange-golden yellow color of medium-deep depth. Frozen strawberries and white sugar Nose. Medium-light to medium bodied on the palate. Very minerally on the palate, with a spritz-like sensation, despite the absence of any visual spritz. Something possibly off with this bottle. 13% alc…
