2006 Kutch Pinot Noir Russian River Valley - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (11/13/2009)
14.4% alcohol. As with previous bottles. Open and voluptuous, with distinct black cherry and spice. Ripe and succulent, with a juicy edge to it. The baking spice and light touch to the acidity work beautifully. A- -
2006 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/13/2009)
14.1% alcohol. Opened two hours before drinking but not decanted. Gorgeous nose of red and black cherry, stems, a light spice note, minerals, and a touch of herbs. In the mouth, vibrant and structured, with tremendous fruit, elegance, and balance. Youthful and still pretty tightly wound, this is still showing well. The fruit is pure and delightful, with layers of complexity that are highly enjoyable and underscore the years of life that lie ahead of this wine. Long finish with some tannin. A- -
2006 Rivers-Marie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/13/2009)
14.2% alcohol. Opened for two hours before serving but not decanted. After pouring into the glass, it needed another 30 minutes and some good swirling to come around, but when it did, the wine was gorgeous. Red cherry color. Lovely nose of red and black cherry, baking spice, flowers, and a hint of minerals. In the mouth, fantastic purity with a distinct red streak to the cherry fruit. Bright acidity. Long finish that shows the slightest hint of vanilla. This is elegant, balanced, and beautiful. Still another year or to two away from its peak, but this producer is doing excellent things with Pinot. A-
