2013 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux
Surprsiingly approachable, has depth and breadth, very much in the dark fruit spectrum. Some vitamin B and oak notes but the fruit is bright and defined, the tannins polished. Quite lovely.
2001 Penfolds Bin 389 Shiraz Cabernet (from Magnum)
2001 was a very hot summer and vintage in South Australia. Some regions recorded well above average yields. Despite this there were some lovely wines made in 2001 and I find that they are drinking beautifully at the moment. They are luscious, round, juicy and still quite bright. This is no exception, just in a brilliant place. Mouthfilling but so wonderfully integrated that it just glides across the gums. Worth seeing out.

My liver needs restrictions to be eased.
On the wagon now for 2 long weeks. But last 4 were a real treat. Drink for me!
