TNs: 2013 Cristal, 2013 Cristal Rose, 2009 Rousseau Cazetiers

2013 Cristal Brut

This was again beautiful with lemon zest, toasted brioche, and a bit of pomelo on the nose. The palate was stunning with crisp acidity, more transparent fruit and the finish was singing, long and precise.

2013 Cristal Rose

This was a bit tighter than the blanc, but did open up into a beautiful wine with some strawberries and hay on the nose, lots of acidity and texture on the palate and a perfumed finish. I think this could benefit from a few more years in the cellar, I won’t plan to open the next one for some years.

2009 Rousseau Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cazetiers

This was a wow wine, red and dark currants, strawberries, soft rich earth, mushrooms, and truffles on the nose, with a rich but textured, elegant, and balanced palate with great depth. There was tremendous length and persistence on the finish. Gives me a lot of hope for the 09 CSJ we plan to open this weekend. I feel like I always underestimate the Cazetiers but it may represent one of the best values in the Rousseau portfolio.

I too had this wine, the Friday after Thanksgiving, out of half bottle with some Turkey leftovers. A wonderful, casual afternoon wine at just the right time. The wine was open, showing a nice balance of lively fruit and softening oak and tannins. I ordered more right after I finished.

It’s really a nice wine. Even the 96 we had a few years ago was great!
