A few wines with dinner

2008 De Moor Bourgogne Chitry
Chablisienne at first with flinty minerality and citrus that fills out with a slightly riper honeyed texture and mild white grapefruit. Clean and bright with a persistent middle and refreshing mouthfeel. Very quaffable and most satisfying at this entry level ($20 - $25). Enjoyed a quick taste and meeting Olivier De Moor at the March CSW/LDS tasting. Always nice when a purchase works out based on a fast snapshot.

2006 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris
Lots of petroleum with sweet powdered sugar aromas featuring ripe nectarines and apricots. A touch of botryris. Dry, viscous and ripe with Gewurtz-like spice. Clumsy compared to the Chitry. There’s enough acid to push the marginally attractive Rubenesque features, if not move them far. Thick and mouthcoating. Served as an appetizer with mild cheeses, perhaps it would’ve stepped up with Choucroute or another more fitting pairing. No heat at 14% abv. Pitching outside my strike zone.

2008 Occhipinti Il Frappato
Effusively floral with plenty of cinnamon. Brightly red fruited, featuring red cherries and traces of clean mint with a light sprinkling of earth. Very agile and exhibiting softer characteristics from Burgundy, Piedmont and Tuscany. Midweight with persistent lightly spiced red fruit. Moderately long finish with accessible tannins. Not sure where this might go with bottle age, but why wait? Attractive, engaging, playful and food friendly.
