TNs: 2006 Rivers Marie Pinots

Catching up on some tasting notes from this past weekend. I have purchased all things RM since 2005, much more so pinot/chard the last couple of years than cabs as that is what we primarily drink. Had 2 of the remaining 06’'s this past weekend, a Summa and an Occidental.

TN: 2006 Rivers Marie Occidental Vineyard Pinot. Bought directly from winery upon release. Cloudy ruby color. Nose full of red fruit, citrus and forest floor. Typical RM profile. Much more vibrant on the palate than expected. Still a good bit of acid and well balanced. Drinking well now. Not sure it will get any better. Everything good about RM. 92+ points.

TN: 2006 Rivers Marie Summa Vineyard Pinot. Again, bought directly from winery upon release. Deeper garnet color and clearer than the Occidental. In general, came off as the darker, more brooding sibling of the Occidental. Darker red fruit and a bit deeper profile. Not as lively or acidic. More plums and dark raspberry and rhubarb than brighter fruit and citrus. Just a bit flatter than the Occidental. But still enjoyable. Not sure what phase it is in. 90 points.
