TNs: 2005 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast

I put both my notes up here since in this most recent one I refer to the previous one. …and just because the CT integration is awesome and I can do it…

  • 2005 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/5/2009)
I last had this wine about 10 months ago. Not much change in that time and I’ll defer to those notes for the details. There’s absolutely no doubt that this is a big beast of a Pinot Noir. Lots of ripe fruit and lots of alcohol, which hides nicely behind everything else only to grab you once you try to get up and walk around a bit. It’s certainly a big, fluffy, enjoyable wine but it can be rather tiring on the palate as well. Drink it and sit back and watch some cartoons and have a good time.

I’m surprised at how well the Kosta Browne pinot noir masks the very high 15+% alcohol content in these wines. Normally I would expect to get a lot of heat off these wines and unless you are really sensitive to it, you really don’t get that here. Of the two appellation bottlings from KB, I think I prefer the Russian River Valley bottling to this Sonoma Coast bottling but they are really close together in terms of style. I find the Sonoma Coast perhaps a little more transparent in color and it has straightforward cherry cola flavors without the extra little nuances that I get from the RRV. However, still really a great bottle of wine if this is the style that you like. (90 pts.)

Hurrah, I love seeing the notes flow baby!

Had basically the same reaction to a bottle of the '06 last weekend.
Open a bottle, sit back and watch cartoons. [cheers.gif]
I like that one.

That wine was delicious last summer from opaque coffee cups and sidewalk table @ a guerilla pizza joint. That is a testimony to something about that wine.
