TNs: 2004 Bonnaire BdB Grand Cru, 2008 Catherine et Pierre Breton Chinon Beaumont

This never gets old: my wines of the year for 2012!
Hadn’t had a sip since NYE, so cracked my first bottles of 2012 last night.

  • 2008 Catherine et Pierre Breton Chinon Beaumont - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon (1/5/2012)
Throwing down some biodynamie-Loire-funk here. This is screaming good juice for dirtheads, deadheads, and Marxist farmers everywhere. Feral and smoky. Funky and floral. It tastes like the earth. On acid. Some fruit and dark cocoa notes emerge. Slightly green and leathery. Really tasty with my roast chicken and duck fat taters. Seems young, but I’d hit it now for all it’s giving. $18 well spent. I want more.
  • 2004 Bonnaire Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Grand Cru - France, Champagne, Cramant, Champagne (1/5/2012)
Young, with tight bubbles. Honey and brioche with air. Rich, somewhat savory, but quite nice. Really rather crisp. Good stuff.

Happy New Year Dennis. Sounds like NYE was a bit rough. Glad to hear the positive note on the Bonnaire. Not familiar with this producer, but picked up several bottles from Envoyer. Sounds like I should take one for a test drive.

Thanks Russ. Same to you.
Not rough, just a head cold and busy the last week, so it worked out to detox for a few days.
Bonnaire is definitely worth a test drive. Could stand some age, too, but I liked it.

Thanks for the notes. Winex is always stocked on Breton. A lot of bang for your buck in those wines.
