TNs: 2000 St. Innocent PN Seven Springs & 2016 Vacheron Sancerre Le Paradis

  • 2000 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (4/19/2020)
Medium ruby color. Fully-developed nose two hours after opening, with wafts of black raspberry, hyacinth, earth, and iodine. Lovely on the palate with layers of dark plum, raspberry, and iron-inflected earth with a complicating edge of astringency as before, now almost resolved. Refreshing acidity and smoothed tannin, with satiny but pleasingly tactile structure. Longer finish of black cherry and raspberry fruit, brier, and grip. Continues to improve at age 20, and a terrific pairing with roast chicken per recipe from Le Pichet. (91 pts.)
  • 2016 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Le Paradis - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre (4/18/2020)
Popped and poured to accompany garlic shrimp over pasta. Pale white gold color. Nose of schist, pear, grass, lime, grapefruit. Vivacious but not overly sweet on the palate with layers of grapefruit, lemon peel, white peach, grassy notes, and stone. Copious acidity and dry mineral spine. Long finish of white grippy fruit and mouth-watering stony elements. Nicely done. (91 pts.)

Nice note!

John,

Thanks! I guess by now I should not be surprised by the aging potential of Oregon Pinot Noir but I’m always delighted when they turn out so well.

Cheers,
Doug
