    – popped and poured –
    – tasted non-blind over a couple hours –

NOSE: somewhat tight; earthy; hint of mint; blackberries; graphite.

BODY: garnet color of great depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: earthy with blackberries; minerally; hint of Bdx funk; nice acidity – well-balanced; hint of smoke; hint of black licorice on the finish. Not as impressive as the bottle I consumed on 11/19/2007, but still very good.

B: 50, 5, 11, 16, 8 = (90 pts.)

Appearance: I was immediately surpised when the dark purple liquid gently flowed from the bottle, leaving a considerable amount of sediment behind. I was not expecting such a youthful looking wine. Amount of sediment seemed appropriate. There was barely a hint of aging near the edges of the wine in the glass.

Nose: Hint of barnyard; i agree with those who’ve said moist forrest floor; dark raspberry notes; spicy treebark too.

Body: Medium bodied. I was surprised at the level of tannins here, this wine could easily lay for at least a couple more years.

Taste: Quite impressive: very smooth and earthy. Still plenty of fruit flavors going on here. We had this bottle with a pasta bolognese (the bolognese had about 60% hamburger, 30% lamb, and 10% Italian sausage) and asparagus in a lemon-butter sauce. I was further surprised that this wine paired better with the asparagus than it did the pasta bolognese. In fact, the asparagus pairing was so heavenly it will be a pairing I plan on revisiting on a regular basis in the future. I was surprised at the youthfulness of this wine. For my taste, this wine could easily sit another 1, 2, or maybe 3 years.
