2007 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley - USA, California, Napa Valley (11/16/2010)
Popped and poured. Very dark purple color in the glass. Nose of sweet black fruit, that after an hour or so faded and took on a raisiny character. In the mouth this is very lush and sweet, almost portlike such that I almost wonder if there’s any RS (I looked it up and there’s pretty much not, only .71). The 15.5% ABV shows up in a touch of heat. The tannin is mostly fine and soft. Shortish finish was more sweet fruit and heat. This was too heavy and over the top for me, and didn’t even pair all that well with a New York strip, but if you’re a fan of the lush, smooth ripe style of cab, you’d probably like this more. 2009 Domaine de la Louvetrie (Landron & Fils) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Amphibolite Nature - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (11/13/2010)
This was really nice. Notes of citrus, flowers, and minerals, with a just a touch of creaminess that was a bit surprising for me in a Muscadet. Plenty of acid, but not out of balance. Was lovely with shellfish. (89 pts.)
2005 Antonin Guyon Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine de la Guyonnière - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (11/13/2010)
Out of 375. This wine is all about black cherry fruit. Quite ripe actually. Just a hint of earth in the background. Holds up well through the midpalate but doesn’t gain any complexity. Finishes with more black cherries. Pleasant if a bit simple. (87 pts.)
