Had a great dinner last night and some great wines:
2007 Aubert Ritchie Chardonnay: Can this get any better with age…this wine was an absolute show stopper and I have loved every Aubert Chard I have had to this point…wish somehow wine like this could be made for like $25 a bottle - I would buy a ton!
1989 Chasse Spleen: My girlfriend remarked that this wine smelled like Christmas and it certainly did…kindof tasted like Christmas too and I don’t know if that is a good thing…really funky nose and the color would indicate this still has years left…but the taste…the taste was a disappointment. The fruit is hidden behind really rough tannins that did not ease as the night went on…after 4 hours in the decanter i gave up and sent a good part of the bottle down the tubes…
2005 JJ Prum Graacher Himmelreich Auslese Gold Capsule: Opened this last second to make up for the lackluster Chasse Spleen showing and while it is infanticide to open this guy up this wine did not disappoint. Everything you would want from a great 2005 Auslese and EXTREMELY rich.
