TNs: 05 and 06 Potel Bourgogne

  • 2005 Nicolas Potel Bourgogne Cuvée Gérard Potel - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (1/4/2010)
13.0% alcohol. Such a striking contrast to the 2006, which was much lighter. This is a fierce wine, very concentrated. Really lovely. Dark cherry color, a touch of funk on the nose, with gorgeous red cherry and black Pinot fruit, tinged with plenty of minerals. In the mouth, bracing and full of sour cherry and black cherry fruit. Flowers and minerals support, with very strong acidity. A baby but very impressive for this level. A-
  • 2006 Nicolas Potel Bourgogne Cuvée Gérard Potel - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne (1/2/2010)
13.0% alcohol. Very young and tight, but still pleasant and laser-like. Light red color. Pretty nose with lots of minerals, red cherry, and cranberry. In the mouth, vibrant and pure, with zingy minerals framing the sour cherry and cranberry fruit. A light floral touch leads to a solid finish. B+

By funk do you mean feces? Seems to be a pattern with Potel

Got a 6 pk of the '05 based on a great bottle I had on release. Next 2 I opened were corked. Opened a 3rd and it was not as good as the original bottle. Have 2 put away in storage for 2012.

It wasn’t really bretty/poopy funk. It was more slightly reduced funk. Somewhere between. I didn’t mind it at all. Didn’t strike me as bretty, but I’m not as attuned to that as I am to TCA.
