TNs: 04 Il Poggione and 04 Lazzeretti Brunelli

Lunch at my local Italian and decided to try the newly arrived Brunelli from VinsRare.

First off, the Poggione is the bomb. An absolutely fantastic wine packed with red and dark fruit. Bright acidity and tannic will require a lot of time to fully develop and will be a treasure in anyone’s cellar. Everyone at the restaurant raved about it. Loved it.

The Lazzeretti was quite weired at first with a rather nasty nose, but very nice on the palate. I thought it was corked as it smelled a bit of wet rags, but very nice on the palate. Eventually the nose cleaned up and ended up as a very pleasing wine.

Il Poggione is a must buy. Did I mention that I liked the wine?

Thanks for the note on this. I picked some up at BP Wine last week @ $43 per.

That’s a damn-good price. This exact wine is on my Santa list. I’ve contended to Mrs. D that I’ve been a very, very good boy this year.

Well, the wines were refrigerated and left for tomorrow, but I had to check on the Poggione. It is really a chameleon. At first I get notes of coffee and parseley. A little bit later they dissapear and get notes of bacon fat. Just amazing how it keeps on changing!!! [berserker.gif]

The Lazzeretti remains virtually unchanged except for some slight barnyard smell.

The 01 Lazzeretti was superb when it first came out, but now it has a definite streak of barnyard right now. Sure how that goes away.

Hi Otto,

Thanks for the note. Poggione is a great Brunello, recently I was in London and saw it there for 24£ [truce.gif] [dance-clap.gif]
