Did anybody of you taste this?
And is it the same champagne under 2 different labels?
Thanks in advance.
E,
Yes, the same wine. Originally, it was meant to be a joint project between Herve Jestin and Benoit Marguet, but they eventually have decided to release the wine under separate labels. They are still producing the wine as a team and Sapience is the more often seen of the two labels. I’ve only seen the 2006 for sale and the 2006 vintage of this wine is the premier release of these wines and is made from Pinot Meunier sourced from Vincent Laval in Cumieres and Chardonnay sourced from David Leclapart in Trepail (close to a 50/50 blend). The wine is fermented and aged for 9-10 months in used oak barrels from Bordeaux. Dosage is low at around 2-3 g/L. The wine is pricey and has a bit of marketing/storytelling behind it, but it is also darn good. Future releases (2007-2013) are also showing great potential.
It is a wine that I went into tasting wanting to not like just because it seemed to be more about image and storytelling than the wine, but Herve Jestin is a genius with vines and wines and Benoit Marguet is also extremely talented with wine and a great businessman.
The 06 is extremely deep and comlex with a dynamite nose of spiced floral notes. The is richer, but also elegant and comes across well balanced with plenty of honey, dougy, creamy orange fruit leading the wine. Hard to resist right now and will continue to get better.
