A real fun dinner at the local haunt T Chow

2000 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvee Saint Catherine L’Inedit

I really consistently love this cuvee and this one did not disappoint, quite explosive on the bouquet with enough soft acid to reign in the mid palates RS, we made pretty light work of this and it did its job as the warm up pitcher with ease and class. Isn’t it great when a wines bouquet and palate rejoice

1996 Domaine Guy Roulot Meursault Les Charmes

This was earth shattering from the moment I pulled the cork, this was phenomenal for well into its second hour, after my first sip I went running for the waiter to see if they had a fresh Lobster to make it the perfect companion, we were in luck and the next 45 minute was pure pleasure. This wine was a moving target, it kept evolving and changing and showing different side about every 5 minutes, this easily goes down as one of the best white burgs I have ever tasted. I kept a dribble in the bottle and 24 hours later I have just finished it off and ………it had lost nothing! Simply amazing, and better still I have 3 more bullets in the holster.

2005 Chave Hermitage Syrah

I tried the 2003 Chave quite a few times on release and I was really keen to see how the new 2005 was showing when a 6 pack arrived recently, this was really lovely stuff, very dark in colour with quite a bit of mid palate sweetness and rounded tannins. It held a lovely dark fruits bouquet and some lovely deft tannin on the finish. A real pleasure to drink now, surprisingly so. I was surprised to find it labelled 14% as it tasted more like 15% to me, I analysed it at the winery this morning and the alcohol was 15.3%, TA 6.5, PH 3.6 with an slightly elevated VA of 0.8

We head down to Auge for a cheese course to match the masters Nebb.

1990 Giacosa Barbaresco Reserva

My second from a 6 pack and this beat the pants off the first bottle, this was the only wine I decanted before dinner and this did not let us down. This had all the elements which I love so much from Nebbiolo, the fruit and tannins worked in unison to give a lovely vibrant and appealing finish. Special stuff from a special producer. I recently landed a magnum of 96 Falleto Reserva and it now winks at me every time I go into my cellar!

MT

Oh yeah… 96 Roulot Charmes, I remember this wine very well, although it was almost 4 years ago! My TN was… more to the point maybe

1996 Domaine Guy Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru (1/24/2006)
Burg OL in Antwerp (t’Fornuis, Antwerp): My white WOTN. Incredible purity, focus and precision. Superb nose, palate and finish. A brilliant effort.

That was on a night where we had a lot of 96 whites: Leflaive Clavoillon and Pucelles, Grivault Perrieres, Latour-Grivault Perrieres, d’Auvenay Gouttes d’or, JC Belland Corton Charly and Laroche Chablis Les Clos. But the Roulot stole the show for me.
