TN: Weekend Wines (Ridge, Marco Di Giulio, ACV.)

  • 2005 Ridge Zinfandel Pagani Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (10/4/2009)
I thought this was corked, but no one else seemed to notice, even after I brought it up. Very muted nose of pepper and dark fruits. Same thing for the taste of the wine, I just couldn’t get much out of it until the finish which was full of black pepper and some dark fruits. Not much of a note I guess, but the feeling for me that this was corked made this not so enjoyable to drink.
  • 2003 Marco Di Giulio Cabernet Sauvignon Mark K Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain (10/3/2009)
Not sure what is going on with this, maybe it still needs some time to come together? I love Marco’s wines and last time I had this it was gorgeous. Don’t get me wrong, it was still very good but it was missing that ‘wow factor’, so to speak. Nice enough nose of dark fruits, cassis and a lot of milk chocolate, almost overwhelmingly so. A big wine with on the palate with the afformentioned chocolate very present, along with some black licorice now coming through. Finish was medium length and could have used a touch more acidity to go with the tannins that held up strong against Rib-Eye I had.
  • 2006 Anderson’s Conn Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/3/2009)
Very surprised by this. Last time I had this, it was good, but this time it was absolutely fantastic. Everyone at the table enjoyed it, wino’s and non-wino’s. Beautiful light red color to it. Nose of bright cherries, raspberries and a touch of oak. Very Juicy and tasty with the redfruits just really shining on the palate, leading to a nice long finish with wonderful acidity and light tannins to give this excellent balance.

Yoni - when did you last have the '06 ACV Pinot? Was it during Berserkerfest?

I can’t recall trying any ACV Pinot, either at ACV or the fest, or the festivities surrounding it, unfortunately.

2 weeks after Berserkerfest when we went back up to Napa. We had it at the winery and then popped one later that night with friends. Although it was good then, it was just fantastic this weekend.

All this was surprising as until we visited the winery I wasn’t aware that ACV even produced a pinot.

I didn’t know while we were at the winery that they produced a Pinot either…
