The only (apparent) leaker of the bottles I picked up today & as I’ve never had any vintage of VD before I thought I’d bust this particular bottle for a tester ASAP! Looking at Harry’s CdP book they produce 50,000 bottles of this stuff on average although this was labelled “sous le No. 095549”. Anyway, 1 hour in the decanter (& this was a leaker BTW) while the bottle stink blew off…
Ruby. Stunning nose of Clarissa Dickson Wright’s version of Beef Wellington - roast beef, mushroom & blood – certainly no apparent sweetness here. Not a blockbuster, but I thought this rather glorious although maybe more advanced as it should have been (NB: actually I don’t really know having never tried a VD), but certainly delicious with its stunning other classic secondary characteristics of farmyard, black tea, herbs & air-dried raspberry, fully resolved tannins and a soft, delicious memorable finish. Bloody good in fact - I liked this correct or not! 13.5%vol. 92pts
