Tyrus Evan Claret Ciel du Cheval 2004:
Not sure why these wines, made by Ken Wright, got early reviews from TWA and then nothing. They are really good. What’s up with that Jay?
Had this wine last night with some amazing pork chops on the BGE. The nose initially hinted at black plums, roasted meats and black tea but then seemed to melt into more sweet aromas of red berries and flowers. This is complex but fruit driven, complete with flavors of blackberry, candied cherries, pencil lead, red currant and smoke. The longer the wine was open the more the smokey, meaty elements began to fade and the sweater the fruit became. This is truly a great value and a wonderfully expressive wine from an excellent terroir. Worth checking out. 90 points
