Tried these two at dinner last night:
- Harrington Vermentino CedarLaneVnyd/ArroyoSecco (14.1%; www.HarringtonWines.com) SanFrancisco 2014: Med.light gold color; lots of tiny/tiny bubbles that dissapate immediately but don’t agglomerate; very fragrant/perfumed very floral/carnations/spicy/peach blossom/classic Vermentino slight chalky/stony beautiful aromatic almost R-like nose; slight spritz/dissolved CO2/sharpness on fron of palate that disappears immediately; fairly tart/tangy/steely very strong floral/carnations/mango/peach blossom light stony/chalky/metallic somewhat savory lovely flavor; very long bit spritz/dissolved CO2 up front fairly tart/tangy quite floral/Vermen/carnations/peach blossom slight chalky/metallic finish; not the earthiness of a Corsican Vermen & not the richness of a Piemonte Favorita or a Ryme “Hers” but more like a Ligurian Pigato; quite a lovely Vermentino.
- Reustle/PrayerRockVnyds Tempranillo Winemaker’sBestBarrel (#265 of 300; 13.5%; 100% Am.oak; Drk: 2015-2023; 1 barrel) 2012: Very dark color w/ no bricking; very strong cherry/black cherry/Temp/spicy/cinammon some toasty/oak/pencilly quite attractive Temp nose; fairly tart/tangy strong black cherry/Temp/spicy/cherry bit earthy/dusty some toasty/pencilly/Fr.oak light earthy/dusty quite attractive high-toned flavor w/ modest tangy/bitey tannins; long some toasty/pencilly/oak strong Temp/black cherry/cherry/spicy finish w/ some hard/bitey tannins; lots of high-toned Temp/black cherry character w/ some toasty/oak character; nicely made Temp. $40.00 (vSK)

- Dissolved CO2: Still trying to understand the effects of dissolved CO2 in white wines. This wine was even different yet. When poured, there were lots of tiny/tiny bubbles that disappear rapidly and don’t agglomerate into larger bubbles like they often do. There was a immediate hit on the front of the palate from the CO2 that immediately disappears, but leaves behind a solid tart acidity. Surprised there is still some dissolved CO2 with this much age in the btl. Strange.
