Cracked last night for company to go w/ the short ribs:

  1. Failla Syrah EstateVnyd/SonomaCoast (13.8%) 2008: Very dark color w/ no bricking; rather Rhonish/pungent/smokey/roasted slight herbal/licorice/blackberry/Syrah/spicy slight peppery/cold-climate complex nose; tart cold-climate/peppery smokey/pungent/Rhonish light licorice/blackberry/Syrah/spicy rather herbal fairly tannic/hard flavor; very long rather hard/tannic/structured rather Rhonish/roasted/smokey slight peppery/blackberry/Syrah pretty tart finish; lots of Rhonish character but cold-climate seems to show more as herbal; needs 3-5 yrs but may not outlast tannins.

  1. BedrockWineCo Syrah KickRanch/SonomaCnty (6% Viog; natural yeasts; 35% new Fr.oak; 14.6%; 6 brls) 2010: Very dark/black color; intense blackberry/boysenberry/mulberry/Syrah bit alcoholic huge fruit slight toasty/Fr.oak licorice/spicy perfumed nose; soft somewhat hard/tannic/structured very strong mulberry/blackberry/Syrah/licorice somewhat toasty/Fr.oak flavor; very long tannic/hard/structured very strong mulberry/blackberry/Syrah some toasty/oak finish; a rather hard/tough Syrah that needs 4-8 yrs yet; loads of primary/Syrah fruit.
