Tried these two new arrivals over the weekend:
- Jaffurs Roussanne StolpmanVnyd/SBC (12.6%) 2012: Med.light gold color; strong fragrant Rouss/honeysuckle/floral/pear slight earthy lovely/perfumed nose; fairly tart rich/strong honeysuckle/Rouss/floral/carnations/pear slight mineral/earthy structured perfumed flavor; very long classic Rouss/honeysuckle/floral/pear fairly tart/rich structured quite perfumey finish; a lovely structured classic Roussanne at a great price. $27.00
- Jaffurs Syrah SBC (14.5%) 2012: Very dark/near black color; intense blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/licorice/smokey/peppery/spicy some toasty/oak slight roasted/Rhonish/pungent slight Shinola/shoe polish beautiful nose; some tart bit tannic/hard very strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/licorice structured light toasty/oak/smokey flavor w/ some hard tannins; very long very strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/licorice/peppery bit hard/tannic structured light toasty/oak finish; needs at least a yr and should go out 8-10 yrs; one of the best Jaffurs SBC Syrahs yet; a terrific SantaBarbara Syrah at a great price. $25.00
A wee BloodyPulpit:
- This Roussanne was a quite different beast from previous Jaffurs Roussannes and other whites. They tend to be on the rich/lush/soft side. This '12 Roussanne seemed much more reigned in than previous one. It’s still packed w/ Roussanne character, but more structured/leaner and more interesting than before. A terrific Roussanne.
